Lakers News: Steve Nash May Return For Lakers’ Playoff Opener

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Sacramento KingsThe Los Angeles Lakers have been hit by the injury bug several times this season and they are currently without Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash. Bryant is expected to be out for six to nine months, meaning there is essentially no chance he makes a return this season. Nash, on the other hand, may be on the court for the Lakers’ next game.

Yahoo! Sports writes that there is a chance that Nash will be in the lineup for the team’s first playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers play Game 1 of the series on Sunday, giving Nash some time to rest and heal the injury.

The point guard has missed eight games due to a strained hamstring and hip soreness, but the Lakers were able to make the post season with him on the bench.

Nash and Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak both expressed optimism Nash would be able to play on Sunday.

“It really depends on whether the two epidurals work,” Nash said. “If they kick in, I have a good chance to play.”

With Bryant out for an extended period of time, the Lakers need all the star power they can get. Nash has struggled at times this season, but he will be able to dominate the ball more since Kobe is no longer playing. Even though Nash is getting older, he still has the ability to score and find his teammates for open shots.

Kobe Bryant was undoubtedly the Lakers’ leader, but the team is in good hands with Nash running the point.
