Lakers Executive VP Jeanie Buss made an hour-long appearance on ESPN L.A. Now with Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson earlier today to talk about her late father and the current state of the team. Buss made it clear that the franchise intends to honor the owner that brought 10 NBA titles to Los Angeles next season with the memorial game one day after his birthday via Serena Winters:

Along with the team still recovering from losing such an important piece to the puzzle in arguably the greatest owner in professional sports, the Lakers’ front office has been scrambling to put a team together in the aftermath of the Dwightmare.

With Dwight Howard deciding to leave town in favor of the Houston Rockets, the Lakers’ front office has been left to pick up the pieces by adding veterans and young players that are willing to take a discount to play in Los Angeles.

It remains to be seen how the Lakers will fair with the new faces like Wesley Johnson, Nick Young, Chris Kaman and a familiar face like Jordan Farmar, but Jeanie appears confident the team will continue to compete at a high level moving forward.
