VIDEO: Behind The Making Of TWC Sportsnet’s “Backstage: Lakers”

Lakers Nation attended a VIP viewing of the newest episode of “Backstage: Lakers” at ArcLight Cinemas in El Segundo, celebrating over 50 episodes of Time Warner Cable SportsNet’s hit “reality” show. At the screening, producers of “Backstage: Lakers,” along with Lakers head trainer Gary Vitti, Lakers center Robert Sacre and assistant coach Kurt Rambis, talked about the making of the behind the scenes show, which documents the life of being a part of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The concept for the show developed from the idea of the network wanting the fans to “live and breathe Lakers life, every single week of the year,” said coordinating producer, Brian DeCloux.

A small camera crew, usually consisting of one or two people travels with the Lakers at all times, capturing moments to create a story for each weekly episode of “Backstage: Lakers.” Unlike a standard reality show, with several invasive cameras and overhanging microphones, there is no script for “Backstage: Lakers,” which seems more like a weekly documentary than a reality show. After their firstfull season with the Lakers, Jesse Aron, a producer and editor for the show who also travels with the team, says the players and crew are starting to get used to the cameras.

New episodes of “Backstage: Lakers” debut on Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m., PST. This Wednesday, February 5th, the newest episode will premiere at 7:30 p.m. following the Lakers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game. Check out our video above and don’t forget to subscribe to our Lakers Nation YouTube Channel.
