Andrew Bynum: “I Don’t Take Part in (Mike Brown’s) Huddles”

Another piece of the Andrew Bynum versus Mike Brown puzzle seems to have been revealed following the Lakers’ narrow win over the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday afternoon.

After that rather infamous three-point shot that landed Bynum on the bench last week, his body language has appeared slightly more casual and less intense. This has been especially true during timeouts or when he is on the bench.

It’s been noted that Bynum doesn’t often rise with his teammates and participate in the team huddles during the game. This is when Brown and the rest of the coaching staff generally take a few seconds to direct their team and discuss what they need to do on the court.

When asked about the huddle situation, Bynum readily admitted that team huddles don’t concern him very much.

“Kobe Bryant missed his first 15 shots, and so a reporter asked Bynum what Kobe was like in the huddle during timeouts?

“I don’t know,” Bynum said with his characteristic cavalier attitude. “I don’t take part in the huddles.”

Another reporter reacted with disbelief, asking why not.

“I’m resting,” Bynum said. “Getting my Zen on.”*

Well, so much for a simple solution to that problem. Bynum’s growing arrogance and attitude issues have apparently been rubbing some people within the organization the wrong way. I’m sure these comments aren’t going to improve that standing with anyone in particular, especially Mike Brown.
