The Los Angeles Lakers may be having a rough season, perhaps the worst in franchise history, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wearing the purple and gold even when accomplishing incredible feats.

— Think You Know Everything About Kobe Bryant? Take The Ultimate Kobe Quiz! —

Recently, a 19-year-old Lakers fan in Australia pulled off something amazing on the shores of New South Wales. According to Sarah Kimmorley of Business Insider Australia, Max Muggeridge caught and released a tiger shark weighing in at 992 pounds:

A mammoth tiger shark weighing more than 450kg (992 pounds) has been caught by hand off a beach in New South Wales.

Max Muggeridge, 19, who has been a shark fisherman for more than seven years, took three hours to hand reel in the beast.

While wrestling the 1,000-pound monster for three hours on the shore, Muggeridge was sporting a Kobe Bryant Lakers jersey the entire time. A bit ironic considering the correlation with the NBA superstar’s current battle with Father Time and the past three seasons he’s gone down with a season-ending injuries.

Regardless of any irony, Muggeridge was ecstatic about reeling in the enormous tiger shark and said the following about the experience, via Business Insider Australia:

“I wouldn’t change the experience for anything in the world. It was true old school sharkin’.”

Unfortunately, Muggeridge wearing the Kobe jersey wasn’t mentioned in the interview with the 19-year-old. It’d be interesting to learn whether Kobe has been inspiration for the fisherman in his endeavors to accomplish feats like reeling in a 1,000-pound shark with his bare hands.
