In a season in which the Los Angeles Lakers look poised to again set the franchise record for most losses in a single season, one constant source of criticism has been the job done by head coach Byron Scott.

Whether it has been the team’s performance on the court or some of his comments after games, Scott has not endeared himself to many fans this season, and it is well known that he may not return to the team next season.

As this season comes to an end, Scott assessed the job he has done this season and according to Shahan Ahmen of NBC LA, he believes he could have done better this year:

In particular, Scott noted that he could’ve done a better job communicating with the younger players according to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News:

There had been a number of times where it seemed as if Scott wasn’t on the same page with the young players, in particular, rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell. Earlier this season Russell spoke about not knowing what questions to ask Scott while Scott said the second overall pick was too young for him to meet with regularly.

Scott realizing where he has fallen short and working to fix those problems is admirable. The question now is whether it is too late to do so. The Lakers will have a big decision to make regarding their head coach this offseason.
