Not too long ago, Jeanie Buss filed a petition with a Los Angeles Superior Court in order to block her five siblings from executing the sale of their minority shares of the Los Angeles Lakers to new owners Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. This sale would not only completely remove the Buss family from Lakers ownership, but also force Jeanie out as Lakers governor as NBA rules require at least 15% ownership in order to operate in that role.
The original court date was scheduled for Nov. 5, but now Jeanie and her lawyers have filed a continuance in that petition, with a hearing pushed back to Dec. 8, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic:

Following the sale of majority ownership from Mark Walter to Kushner and Iger, the other five Buss siblings voted to sell their remaining shares as well. With Iger and Kushner purchasing the Lakers at a $12.5 billion valuation, a $2.5 billion increase from when Walter bought the team just a year prior, the remaining Buss siblings felt it made sense for them to cash out their remaining shares as well and move on.
Jeanie is pushing back on that, as she is the only remaining sibling who works with the franchise and would lose that position in this sale. In the petition, Jeanie accused her siblings of secretly orchestrating a deal to get her removed as Lakers governor and called for the removal of Joey and Janie Buss of the trust that holds the family’s remaining stake. Jeanie also argued that selling their remaining shares of the Lakers now makes no sense due to the increasing value of the franchise.
Ultimately, this saga between the Buss siblings has no end in sight and will push into the start of the regular season. Hopefully this drama won’t have too much effect on the Lakers’ players as they look to push this team back into championship contention.
Josh Kushner expected to be Lakers’ controlling owner
Since they agreed to purchase the Lakers, it has been Iger who has been out front more publicly in speaking about the team. However, it will reportedly be Kushner who will operate as the sole controlling shareholder of the franchise with Iger being a minority owner.
