Discussion and debate surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 NBA Championship mostly seems to fall on one of two sides. Some discount the championship since it occurred inside the Bubble, while many others call it the most difficult situation they ever played in and praise the Lakers for fighting through the circumstances and coming out on top.
Obviously those on that Lakers team fall in the latter category and starting guard Danny Green recently spoke about the journey of the 2020 Lakers. The wing called that squad a legendary team and said it was his most difficult championship to win, via Bleacher Report:

That 2020 Lakers team was truly an outstanding squad that had star power with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way, along with a cast of excellent role players. Green, Alex Caruso, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale McGee all played crucial roles in the Lakers hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy that season.
It is also worth remembering that the Lakers were already a championship favorite at the time everything shut down. They had a sizable lead over the rest of the Western Conference in the standings and had just defeated their two biggest competitors, the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers, in back-to-back games right before play was suspended.
There are certain things that are just out of the hands of everyone involved and a worldwide shutdown due to coronavirus (COVID-19) definitely falls in that category. Those trying to diminish what the 2020 Lakers accomplished that year tend to be either players who were mad their team couldn’t win, or fans who just hate the Lakers, of which there are plenty. But regardless of what anyone thinks, the Lakers will forever be the 2020 NBA Champions.

The 2001 Lakers are fondly remembered as one of the greatest teams of all-time and for having one of the best postseason runs ever, and the 2026 New York Knicks have recently joined them in the history books for their current run. The Knicks have now won eight consecutive road playoff games, tying those Lakers for the most in a single postseason.
