The NBA world, or at least several teams, are waiting patiently to find out whether or not Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James wants to play another season. They’re also waiting to find out if he’s willing to move to another team if he does. So, of course, fans are looking for hints everywhere, especially with one of James’ closer friends in Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.
Many would assume that if James has already made a decision, Green might know about it. Green seems to be of the belief that the conversation around James is focused on the wrong things.
“I try not to use personal relationships and basketball, to kinda cross those lines,” Green said on the latest episode of his podcast. “But I think from just what I see, I don’t think it’s a matter of if he goes to another team or not. I think it’s a matter of if he continues playing or not. I don’t foresee it like he’s gonna go to Phoenix, he’s gonna go to Golden State, I don’t foresee that.”
This is definitely different from what the rumors have been surrounding James. A quick glance at any basketball discussion site would have you believe that James is all but certain to play another year, and that stints with the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks or Lakers are all possible.
However, Green does have a personal relationship with James, and that could go one of two ways. It could mean that Green has more information than the average insider and is being earnest when he says that retirement is a serious consideration. It could also mean that Green knows and is intentionally not saying things as a favor to James.
No one will know for sure until James has gone public with a decision and either signed a contract with a team or announced his retirement from the NBA.
LeBron James says golf and retirement are not connected
Many assumed that James was close to retirement when he picked up golf as a hobby. However, he made it very clear that his newfound love for golf has nothing to do with his future decisions on the court.
“He also suggests that it’s unwise to read too much into his interest in golf—a popular retiree pastime. “I’m happy that I picked it up at this point in my life, but that has nothing to do with my decision on my playing career,” says James. “That is separate. I love golf, man. But I also know the main thing is the main thing. And that’s my love for the game of basketball. If I continue to play, then that’s always gonna be my passion.”
