Former Lakers Assistant Eddie Jordan Never Graduated From Rutgers

Eddie JordanRemember Eddie Jordan? He was that guy that Mike Brown hired to teach the Lakers the Princeton offense this season. Then, when Mike Brown got fired, he sat behind the Lakers bench and didn’t really do anything besides collect a paycheck.

Anyways, recently he accepted the head coaching position at Rutgers University after it was revealed that Rutgers’ previous coach was kind of a bad dude. It was good news for Jordan, who got the chance to coach the school he graduated from many years prior. Except, not really.

In a new report, it’s been revealed that Jordan never actually graduated from Rutgers, despite multiple instances that stated otherwise.

For now, people aren’t sure how the mistake was made. Here’s a synopsis, courtesy of ESPN.

A Rutgers source told ESPN that it’s unknown if the school did not vet Jordan’s résumé, or if Jordan was not truthful about earning his degree.

Rutgers acknowledged Friday it “was in error when it reported that Eddie Jordan had earned a degree” but said his position does not require him to have one.

The university also released a statement on the matter, saying that ultimately it doesn’t matter if Jordan has a degree or not, that he’s still qualified enough to coach the basketball team at Rutgers.

“Rutgers sought Eddie for the head coach position as a target-of-opportunity hire based on his remarkable public career,” Rutgers said in a release. “Eddie Jordan was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2004, and he has been a part of the Rutgers family since before 1977.”

While this isn’t exactly a huge controversy, it was interesting that the school wasn’t even aware that Jordan hadn’t actually graduated. Not that it really matters, but this is the stuff that makes news when the Lakers get swept out of the first round of the playoffs and there’s nothing else to talk about.

At least now Jordan gets to actually talk, instead of sitting behind the team bench every night. For awhile there I was pretty sure he didn’t even have teeth.
