After the dust settled on the blockbuster trade in which the Dallas Mavericks acquired Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets got to work on a deal involving Corey Brewer.

The Rockets were in hot pursuit of Rondo along with the Los Angeles Lakers, but when the Mavericks’ trade package intrigued the Celtics more than any other team, Brewer became their next target.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Brewer is now headed to Houston:

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to trade Corey Brewer to the Houston Rockets, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Former Laker Ronny Turiaf was also involved in the deal with the Minnesota sending the veteran forward to Houston along with Brewer. Turiaf might not be in Houston for long with plans to send him to a third team on Friday.

Tony Daniels was part of the package the Rockets sent to the Timberwolves along with multiple second-round draft picks and cash.

Obviously, landing Rondo would’ve been the game-changing move for the Rockets, but bringing in Brewer does give them a bit more depth in the backcourt.

As for the Lakers, GM Mitch Kupchak and company could still make a trade or two before the deadline on Feb. 19. Jordan Hill isn’t even eligible to be traded until Jan. 15 which likely hurt the team’s chances of acquiring Rondo.

Although a trade still might be made by the Lakers, Rondo was the big-name they had their sights set on. That being said, Los Angeles may stand pat until free agency next summer.
