Jeremy Lin is easily one of the most polarizing players in the entire NBA. His supporters point to his ability to attack the rim and his success when allowed to be the primary ball-handler. His detractors, however, point to his turnovers and general inconsistency.

When speaking about Lin, the general consensus is that Lin needs to be in a system where he has the ball in his hands all the time to be successful. In a piece by ESPN’s Pablo S. Torre, Lin disputes that notion:

To be honest,” Lin says, “I don’t want to be defined by one style of play. People say, ‘You’re so much better without Kobe,’ but you want superstars on your team. My goal is to evolve my game so I’m not so contingent on any system. Great players can figure that stuff out.”

Lin is a competitor and wants to win more than anything. He understands that superstars like Kobe Bryant are necessary if he ever plans on making a deep playoff run and ultimately becoming a champion. The best players are able to fit their game into any system and Lin is working on doing that.

His recent play has been encouraging as he has averaged 22 points and just under six assists in his last three games. Lin has proven that he is undoubtedly an NBA player. If he is able to evolve the way he wants to, he will improve his worth even more and experience the success he wants.
