The Los Angeles Lakers were in action on Super Bowl Sunday against the lottery bound New York Knicks, but failed to come away with a win, losing 80-92. The purple and gold struggled to contain Carmelo Anthony and paid the price. Anthony had an 18-point third quarter, and the Knicks never looked back.

Point guard Jeremy Lin returned to the arena that saw the birth of “Linsanity,” by far the best stretch of his fledgling NBA career. Three years and two teams later, Lin has had a hard time finding his footing in Los Angeles. A combination of inconsistent performances and a decrease in playing time have created a big question mark in the future of the ex-Harvard player. Lin discussed his viewpoint on the upcoming summer with Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops:

“I’ll just cross that bridge when the time comes,” Lin said. “I’m keeping my options open and see what’s out there. I’m just going to evaluate everything when the time comes because right now you could say stuff, but it doesn’t really matter until I’m presented (with something) at the time because I don’t know what the landscape is going to look like.”

The Lakers guard is certainly going to weigh all of his options as he enters unrestricted free agency. A return to the Lakers is a possibility, but unless he experiences a resurgence in his play from now to April, Lin won’t be commanding the same kind of contract that he was offered by the Houston Rockets three summers ago.

Following the loss to the Knicks, Los Angeles continues to have a hard time finding its footing without Kobe Bryant and Nick Young. The Lakers will have two days of rest before they face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
