Jordan Hill Pleads No Contest to Assault Charge, Receives Probation

After receiving an assault charge as a result of an altercation with a former girlfriend back in March, the recently re-signed Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill was facing up to 10 years in prison if ultimately convicted of the crime.

Reportedly, Hill was able avoid jail time and a nasty felony on his record if he can stay out of trouble over the next 12 months. Hill reached a plea deal according to TMZ.com:

“According to clerk at Harris County Criminal Court in Houston, TX … Hill plead no contest to the charge this morning and in exchange was given a 1-year deferred sentence and a $500 fine. In other words, if Hill stays out of trouble for the next year and pays the fine, the whole case will be wiped from his record.”

This plea deal is an interesting turn of events for the up-and-coming forward. Avoiding a decade in prison by pleading no contest and only receiving one year of probation along with a $500 fine was a no-brainer for Hill.

Hopefully, Hill will be able to stay out of trouble during his probation and put all this behind him.

After signing a two-year deal to stay with the Lakers this summer, Hill has a great opportunity to prove his worth to the team and showcase his skills playing behind Dwight Howard.

With Howard still recovering from back surgery, the 27-year-old will almost certainly see a lot of more time on the floor to start the season if the Lakers’ newest superstar addition is still unable to suit up.
