Kobe Bryant Discusses Goal of Winning Sixth NBA Championship

At Lakers Media Day at the team practice facility in El Segundo, the Lakers ushered out their new and improved lineup. However, one player was partaking in his 17th team Media Day.

Kobe Bryant spent some time discussing the league, most notably the relationship between his Lakers and the burgeoning L.A. Clippers, but he also talked about what winning a sixth championship would mean for him.

“It’s the most important. It’s the next challenge. It means everything.”

A sixth championship for Bryant would obviously put him in rarefied air, and tie him with his idol, Michael Jordan. But Bryant also talked about what a championship would mean for the rest of the team.

“Dwight and Steve both want that first one. Pau wants his third. Ron, or Metta, wants that second one. It’s the next step.”

There’s no question that after acquiring Howard and Nash during the off-season the team has serious championship aspirations. While holding the Larry O’Brien trophy at the end of the season is always Bryant’s goal heading into each year, there’s a chance that that goal may become a reality with the newly reloaded roster.
