Lakers Nation caught up with Golden State Warrior and son of Lakers radio broadcaster, Klay Thompson, at The Drew League over the weekend. Thompson had a breakout season with the Warriors, averaging almost 17 points per game in the regular season. Thompson will be a free agent two summers from now, and depending on the Lakers cap space situation, he could be a Lakers’ target.

Has Thompson thought about the possibility of playing for the Lakers in the future?

“I try not to look too much in the future,” Thompson said with a grin at The Drew League. “I’m really happy with where I’m at, Golden State we’ve got such a good thing brewing up there, but you know playing for the Lakers, it’d be great…”

Thompson grew up a Lakers fan, and his father, Mychal Thompson, won two championships with the Lakers. Klay couldn’t help but smile when asked about the Lakers, but he also has a good thing going for him in northern California. The Lakers wouldn’t be able to go after Klay next summer, as he’s still under contract, but if the Lakers are looking for another shooting guard come 2015, Thompson should be in the conversation. However, Thompson made it sound like if he had a good option to stay in Golden State, it would be hard to pry him away. Could Thompson turn Kobe Bryant down if he tried to recruit him as the future of the Lakers?

“I could… I’d say Kobe, I’m sorry man, we’ve got the splash brothers in the bay. Lakers is one of the best organizations in all of sports…but I’m happy with where I’m at, we’ve got such a good thing coming for the next decade.”

We’d love to listen in on that conversation. Although Thompson would make a great addition to the purple and gold,  if the Lakers play their cards right next summer, the Lakers may not have enough money to offer the young man.
