Lakers Nation Reacts: Which Jackson Lakers Championship Was Best

Phil Jackson is the greatest winner in the history of the NBA. With the highest winning percentage as a coach and more championships than anyone else it is hard for anyone to argue that point.

Today Phil Jackson celebrated his 68th birthday which begged the question for Lakers Nation. Which of Phil Jackson’s five championships with the Lakers was his best? We asked the fans and these are the results they came up with:

Overwhelmingly, the fans agree his final championship over the Boston Celtics was his best as a Laker, and this shouldn’t come as any surprise. The series against the Celtics was far and away the toughest, closest, emotional and most entertaining Finals series of the five.

With 4-1 victories over the Sixers and Magic, and a 4-0 sweep of the Nets, those were never really in contention, although the victory in 2001 over Allen Iverson and the Sixers cemented the greatest playoff run in history.

Jackson’s first Lakers championship came at the hands of the Indiana Pacers in a tough 4-2 series. While his first was extremely satisfying, the Pacers series was good but, ultimately, unmemorable. More people talk about the Philadelphia series due to Allen Iverson’s amazing Game One than the Pacers series.

The Celtics series combined an intense rivalry, a revenge factor after the Celtics victory over the Lakers in 2008, and a heart-stopping seven game series that attracted the entire world to watch and it all added up to Phil Jackson’s greatest Laker championship.
