Lakers Nation Reacts: Will Metta World Peace Return To Lakers Next Season?

Metta World Peace has been a crucial part of the Los Angeles Lakers for the past three seasons; bringing his energy, lockdown defense, toughness, and timely shooting to the Lakers when they needed it most. His performance in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals will always be remembered amongst Laker fans.

But Metta has gotten older and slower in these last couple of years, and if he chooses to opt in for the fifth year of his contract, which he is likely to do, he will be making nearly $8 million. Many people have called for the Lakers to use the Amnesty provision on World Peace to save the Lakers some money, and there is still a chance it can happen and we won’t see Metta in a Lakers uniform next year.

We asked Lakers Nation if Metta World Peace would be a Laker next season and these are the results:

A full two-thirds of Laker fans think we’ve seen the last of World Peace in purple and gold. Metta definitely doesn’t possess the same lockdown defense he had in his prime but his hands are still top notch and his energy and toughness can’t be replaced. He is also one of the few teammates that Kobe Bryant truly trusts in a game.

Even though Metta posted his highest averages for points and rebounds as a Laker this past season he might just not be worth the kind of money the Lakers will have to spend.  If the thoughts of Lakers Nation is any indication, Metta may have some more time on his hands to read his children’s stories.
