Lakers Nation Week in Review: Mar. 17 – Mar. 24

It was a busy week for the Los Angeles Lakers as they saw a myriad of roster changes, including the departure of long time member, Derek Fisher. Fisher headed to the Houston Rockets, and eventually the Oklahoma City Thunder, after winning five titles with the Lakers. However, the Lakers also acquired a young point guard in Ramon Sessions. Sessions quickly won over the hearts of Lakers fans and gave them a player with speed at that position.

As we prepare for the final stretch of the NBA’s regular season, let’s take a look back at the busy week in Lakers Nation.

Game Recaps

Kobe Bryant had one of his worst shooting performances in his NBA career in the Lakers’ game versus the Jazz, and he finished the night at 3-20. The Lakers could not overcome Kobe’s poor performance and began the week with a 103-99 loss, marking only their second defeat at home all season.

The Lakers traveled to Houston to play the injured Rockets team, and they once again held a large lead in the second half of the game. However, just like in the Jazz game, the Lakers blew the lead and allowed the Rockets to climb back in. Houston pulled off a late rally and eventually beat the Lakers, 107-104.

Los Angeles finished its Texas road trip by beating the Dallas Mavericks, the same team that swept them out of the playoffs last season. This was a breakout game for Ramon Sessions and he carried the Lakers to a much-needed victory. Thanks to a great team effort, the Lakers knocked off the Mavericks, 109-93.

With Ramon Sessions in the starting lineup for the first time since becoming a member of the Lakers, Los Angeles beat the Blazers wire-to-wire. Although the Blazers made a late push for the lead, the Lakers never let up and used Sessions in the fourth quarter to close it out, 103-96.

Lakers News

Kobe Bryant said he will eventually get over the loss of Derek Fisher. Bryant has seen many teammates get traded away and understands that this game is a business.

Mike Brown told reporters that Jordan Hill, the player involved in the Fisher deal, will not see a lot of playing time.

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 12, through Sunday, March 18.

Dallas Mavericks’ forward Lamar Odom claims he did not request a trade from the Lakers.

With Derek Fisher no longer a member of the Lakers, Pau Gasol is ready to fulfill his team captain duties.

The Lakers exercised their team option for Andrew Bynum to keep him with the Lakers for another season.

Kobe Bryant still believes the Lakers are a championship caliber team.
