Lakers Nation Week in Review: Mar. 24 – Mar. 31

The Los Angeles Lakers had a mediocre week as they went 2-2 in the past seven days. The Lakers could not get it going and were losing their cushion in the Pacific Division race. The team had opportunities to make a push for the second seed in the Western Conference also, but their inconsistent play prevented them from doing that.

The playoffs are less than a month away and the Lakers will need to put it together as there are some key games approaching. So before we head into the post-season let’s take a look back at a hectic week in Lakers Nation.

Game Recaps:

The Los Angeles Lakers opened the week with a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, but the bigger story line was Mike Brown benching Kobe Bryant in the fourth quarter. Bryant was taken out for the majority of the period and the Lakers could not get enough going to sneak past the Grizzlies. Kobe did come back in for the final two minutes, but the Grizzlies walked away with a 102-96 win.

Los Angeles came back and beat the Golden State Warriors, 104-101, in a competitive divisional game. In this game Andrew Bynum was benched in the fourth quarter and it was due to his ill-advised three-point shot and poor defensive play. The Lakers did not play the best basketball in this game, but Kobe Bryant delivered late when the Lakers need him the most.

In Derek Fisher’s first game back in Los Angeles since being traded by the Lakers, he and the Oklahoma City Thunder pulled off a great upset. The Thunder trailed big in the opening quarter, and but the team rallied and beat the Lakers, 102-93.

The Lakers faced off with the New Orleans Hornets and once again they held a big lead in the opening quarter. However, Los Angeles let that slip away and the Hornets were clicking on all cylinders. Kobe Bryant started the game 0-15 from the field, but when the game was on the line, Kobe came up clutch and hit the game winning three for the Lakers and eventually helped them win, 88-85.
