The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had much in terms of young talent to develop over the past couple of seasons, but this summer proved they have two very intriguing pieces in second-year wing Adou Thiero and rookie guard Cameron Carr. Injuries hampered Thiero’s rookie season, but he has been hard at work this summer and helping the rookie Carr in his journey is part of that as well.

Prior to Las Vegas Summer League kicking off, Thiero spoke about how he has been giving Carr tips and advice on things he experienced as a rookie last season, via Benjamin Royer of the Southern California News Group:

“I feel like we’ve just been pushing each other and I’m helping him out with some of the tips I found out and everything,” Thiero said Thursday of playing with Carr, who the Lakers selected 24th overall after moving up one spot in a draft-night trade with the New York Knicks. “Letting him know those things early. I didn’t really have someone to tell me that during Summer League (last year). I wasn’t playing Summer League. So just trying to let him know some of the stuff that I learned throughout last year, just trying to give him some of those thoughts.”

It is great to see that the Lakers’ two young wings are already pushing each other and building up that relationship. Thiero is giving Carr what he wasn’t able to have last summer as he was still recovering from knee surgery and was unable to participate in Summer League.

Both had excellent flashes for the Lakers this summer as Carr showed off his impressive offensive skills and defensive potential, averaging 18 points and 2.3 rebounds in Las Vegas and having a couple of monster scoring outings both in Vegas and at the California Classic. Thiero also showed off the improvements he has made this offseason, averaging 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in Las Vegas and looking like a player who could contribute to the Lakers this season.

Both Thiero and Carr have a ton of potential and the Lakers will likely need one or both to step up once the season begins. The Lakers have a real need for athleticism and defense on the perimeter and either could provide that. And the fact that they are pushing each other makes it that much more likely that they could find their way in the rotation this year.

Lakers wing Adou Thiero has an impressive Summer League highlight reel

The athleticism of Thiero was on full display during the Lakers’ run at the Las Vegas Summer League and it led to an impressive highlight reel on both sides of the court.
