Coming into this season, Steve Nash made it known that he is still suffering nerve damage in his body from the fracture that he suffered in his left leg in the beginning of the 2012-2013 season. This news, as well as Nash’s aging body, ultimately influenced the Lakers front office to re-stock the guard depth on this team, as they knew that Nash likely couldn’t endure the physical turmoil of an 82-game season.
Through six games Nash hasn’t been spectacular at all, and despite the Lakers precautions to keep him fresh (Mike D’Antoni sits Nash on the second nights of back-to-backs), these measures have yet to translate to some positive production on the court.
Nash missed the entire second half of last nights game against the Minnesota Timberwolves as a result of back pains that he was experiencing. After the game, he spoke to reporters and was seemingly saddened (via Dave McMenamin) by the fact that he hasn’t had much fortune in the health department while he’s been in a Lakers uniform.
“It’s tough,” Nash said after the game. “I hesitate to even talk about it now because it’s probably not a good time. I’m a little emotional. It’s hard. I really want to play and I really want to play the way I am accustomed to playing.”
While it is commendable of Nash to try and battle through injuries, it seems as if he’s playing days in the NBA are numbered, as the injuries are seemingly taking a turn for the worse.
