Lakers News: Assistant General Manager Glenn Carraro Resigns

As the season winds down, the front-office shakeup for the Los Angeles Lakers continues. Magic Johnson is the new president of basketball operations, and Rob Pelinka is the new general manager, but the future of many others is still unknown.

It is normal for new regimes to move people around or get rid of some in order to bring in their own people. One such person would be assistant general manager Glenn Carraro, who has been with the Lakers since 2000. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Carraro has resigned:

Carraro’s name wasn’t one that was in the news much, but for him to have been around the team for as long as he was means that he was a very trusted person in the front office. As Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report points out, Carraro managed the Lakers’ salary cap:

As a holdover from the Jim Buss-Mitch Kupchak regime, it is possible that Carraro felt more loyalty to those people who put him in the position he was in. Nonetheless, his resignation creates an opening for someone else either within the organization or outside.

Both Magic and Pelinka have spoken highly of Ryan West and Joey Buss as young people within the organization who could take on a bigger role. This could be the opportunity for one of them to do so. As the summer draws near the franchise will continue to shape a new identity both on the court and in the front office.
