The Los Angeles Lakers may have been unable to lure in any big-name players in NBA free agency this summer with LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan, Greg Monroe and Kevin Love choosing to sign elsewhere. Although unable to bring in an All-Star-caliber star, the team did land some solid veteran free agents.

What will Brandon Bass make this season? Find out here!

One of those veterans the Lakers were able to sign this summer is forward Brandon Bass. The journeyman inked a two-year deal with the team and is looking forward to making an impression in Los Angeles, especially on the young players.

During an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Bass expressed a willingness to help mentor the young players on the squad next season:

With the season about two months away, it still remains uncertain who’ll be the starting power forward. Second-year forward Julius Randle is expected to eventually earn the starting role at the four spot, but there’s a chance head coach Byron Scott may decide to go with Bass to start the season.

Starting Bass alongside Roy Hibbert in the frontcourt to start the season may be the way to go. Bass can help mentor Randle while the Kentucky product adjusts to the NBA level. Randle is one of the few young players the Lakers brass are looking to develop into a star, but it may take some time after he missed all but 14 minutes of his rookie season.
