The Los Angeles Lakers will be playing a different brand of basketball this season, as they traded point guard D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets and drafted point guard Lonzo Ball with the No. 2 overall pick. Ball is a pass-first point guard, that likes to get out in transition and play uptempo.

That style of play fits perfectly with how veteran wingman Corey Brewer plays. Brewer is a slasher that likes to get to the rim and can finish with ease, especially in transition.

At his 10th Annual Corey Brewer Basketball Camp at Portland High School in Oregon, Brewer commented on what it will be like to play with Ball, and he is excited, via Chris Ladd of Sumner Home Page:

“I think it will be great playing with Lonzo,” Brewer said. “I make my living on the fast break and he is a great passer, hopefully we can score a lot of points this year.”

Brewer was traded to the Lakers at the trade deadline last season as a part of the deal that sent Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets. In addition to his slashing ability, Brewer brought some defensive toughness and veteran leadership to a young Lakers team.

In 10 NBA seasons Brewer has averaged 9.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He will likely battle with fellow veteran Luol Deng for backup small forward minutes behind second-year product Brandon Ingram.

Drafting Ball could do wonders for a player like Brewer, but more than his role on the court, Brewer is on the team to make an impact on the young players in the locker room as a role model.
