Lakers News: Dwight Howard Eyeing Sunday Debut

According to Marc. J Spears of Yahoo! Sports, one Lakers source believes Dwight Howard will make his purple and gold debut in Sunday’s preseason game against the Sacramento Kings:

“He is making progress. There is a good chance he can play Sunday.”

This comes as exciting news for plenty of Lakers fans who’ve been waiting to see Superman suit up in his brand new #12 Lakers jersey.

Howard, himself, is understandably exited, as well as nervous:

“I’ll be a little nervous out there for the first time, but [Nash] said he would help me through it and hopefully it will be OK.”

Howard, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers over the summer in exchange for Andrew Bynum in a blockbuster four-team deal, averaged 20.6 points (on 57.3 percent shooting from the field), 14.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks last season.

A three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Howard is expected to become the face of the franchise after superstar Kobe Bryant hangs up his sneakers for good, potentially after the 2013-2014 season. However, he will first look to join forces with Bryant, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace, Antawn Jamison, and the rest of the team in order seek out his first championship during the 2012-2013 season, which begins on October 30 against the Dallas Mavericks.
