Lakers News: Dwight Howard Not Watching Spurs, Heat NBA Finals

Dwight Howard laughing at press conferenceIt seems that everything Dwight Howard does is news these days. So much so that last night, when he was out at a restaurant in Beverly Hills during Game 6 of the NBA Finals, the folks at TMZ figured out a way to turn it into a story.

Rumor has it Howard wasn’t too interested in Game 6 between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat. In fact, when asked about why he wasn’t watching the game, he was very clear with his reasoning.

Sources inside the restaurant tell us … The L.A. Lakers star (at least for now) was nowhere near the TV during the game … and focused on dinner with his buddies the entire time.

On his way out of the restaurant, Dwight explained why he chose not to watch — telling us, “I’m not watching … I’m not playing so ain’t no need to be [watching].”

He added, “I don’t want to see nobody win a championship.”

Well, not much hair splitting going on there.

If you’ll recall, when Howard’s Magic lost to the Lakers in the 2009 NBA Finals, he forced himself to stay out on the court and watch the Lakers celebrate their title. He wanted the added motivation. I guess those days are behind him.

Howard will continue to make news until he reaches a decision on his free agency, which won’t begin until July 1. So far we’ve heard everything from returning to Los Angeles to bolting for Houston or Dallas. But for now, we’ll just settle for what he’s doing for dinner on Tuesday nights.
