Lakers News: Dwight Howard on Mike D’Antoni – “He’s A Great Person”

Dwight Howard JPGWe haven’t even hit free agency yet and Dwight Howard drama is already rampant in Los Angeles, Houston and several other cities around the NBA. The speculation of whether or not he’ll return to the Lakers has been going on since he first arrived in Southern California, but now that both sides are faced with the inevitable decision, things are getting a little dicier.

In a recent interview with T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times, Howard talked about a myriad of different topics, from where he’ll play next season (he didn’t reveal much) to what life is like in LA. One thing he was asked that might interest the fans, however, is what he thinks of Mike D’Antoni.

D’Antoni, who reportedly didn’t see eye to eye with Howard on several subjects throughout their time together, has overthrown Jim Buss as public enemy number one in Lakerland, part of which is justified, part of which isn’t. But what did Howard say about the Laker head coach?

“I love him,” he said. “He’s a great person.”

Is he a great coach?

“He’s a great person and I’m glad we had the opportunity to be together,” said Howard, which some will undoubtedly interpret as goodbye.

Oh. Well, um, great?

Obviously the final part is Simers’ and not something Howard said, but he’s clearly not doing anything to tip his hand or let on where he may or may not be leaning. One could simply take this as Dwight not wanting to lead anybody on only to disappoint them later, or they could see it as indications that he’s seriously considering leaving Los Angeles.

Either way, the Dwightmare: Part 2 will be over soon enough. At least let’s hope so.
