Lakers News: Gilbert Arenas Believes He’d Be A Good Fit For Lakers

Gilbert ArenasTwo-time NBA All-Star and current free agent, Gilbert Arenas, wants to make a comeback after sitting out the entire 2012-13 NBA season. Arenas isn’t struggling in the financial department with the Orlando Magic set to pay him more than $22 million this year, but he has been itching to get back in the NBA.

It comes as no surprise that the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams Arenas would like to make his return with. Arenas said the following in an interview with Dan Favale of Bleacher Report:

“I guess the Lakers, with Steve Nash out. I think I could’ve made that squad, because that’s who I was working out with before training camp started. I was playing pretty well there. But they had 15 players, so…”

Now that the elbow injury will sideline Steve Blake for at least six weeks, the Lakers have no healthy point guards on the roster. Steve Nash’s return still remains very much up in the air while Jordan Farmar is also dealing with a torn hamstring that will keep him out a few more weeks.

With the Lakers extremely thin in the backcourt and with one roster spot open, the team may consider Arenas if he’s willing to take the veteran’s minimum. Considering the fact Arenas will make more than $22 million this year from the Magic, the veteran will likely accept the minimum in order to get an opportunity to earn another contract.

The Lakers might be the ideal destination for Arenas considering the fact the team will have considerable cap space in the off-season. If Arenas can make an impression, he may earn a role with this team and could be brought back on a short-term deal.

Arenas also mentioned the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks as teams he believes he could help this season.
