With all that has happened this offseason, one of the brighter moments for the Lakers this summer was bringing back point guard Jordan Farmar to backup Steve Nash. Farmar was a pivotal player for multiple years with the Lakers, helping the team as they won two championships, and he will provide things, particularly defensively, that Nash can’t.

After leaving the Lakers, Farmar went to the Nets before playing overseas last season. He left a lucrative contract to return to the Lakers, and he told Bleacher Report why in an exclusive interview:

I felt this was a good playing situation for me. It’s a good opportunity for me to continue to grow and learn some things from Steve Nash and Mike D’Antoni, get back and play with Kobe as his career’s starting to wind down now. There’s only a couple years left for him, and I know how important winning is to him.

Farmar is still young, at only 26 years of age, and being able to learn from D’Antoni, one of the great offensive minds in the NBA, as well as Steve Nash, one of the purest point guards in NBA history, is something that anyone would want to take advantage of.

Farmar has a chance to do a lot for the Lakers this season, and he is showing his intelligence by coming to a place where he can learn from great NBA minds. Reuniting with his good friend Kobe Bryant makes things even better for the UCLA grad.

But if Farmar can add some semblance of Nash’s court vision and passing ability, combined with his athleticism and defensive potential, he could prove to be a huge addition for the Lakers this season.
