Lakers News: Lakers Re-Sign Forward Shawne Williams

As the result of Nick Young set to miss at least the next two weeks due to a knee injury, the Los Angeles Lakers have been forced to bring in another player yet again.

According to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times, the Lakers have re-signed forward Shawne Williams:

Williams was released by the Lakers on Jan. 7 giving the team another roster spot that was eventually filled and vacated by Manny Harris. The veteran forward had a non-guaranteed deal making him expendable at the point in time.

With injuries once again forcing the Lakers to make a move, Williams was called up from the Los Angeles D-Fenders on a 10-day deal.

Ever since signing with the Lakers in the off-season, Williams has been a favorite of head coach Mike D’Antoni. Although struggled during his short time with the Lakers, D’Antoni love his ability to stretch the floor at the power forward position.

The Lakers will likely use Williams as an insurance policy with the team currently riddled with injuries. Rookie Ryan Kelly will continue to start while Williams will help bolster the bench with Young and Pau Gasol on the shelf.
