Los Angeles, hailing as the entertainment capital of the world, can at times turn into a melting pot of famous athletes, actors and inspirational figures. With many historical professional sports teams, such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers, athletes can at times support one another in their philanthropic endeavors.

Dodgers ace and three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw held his annual ‘Ping Pong 4 Purpose’ event, hosted by his foundation, Kershaw’s Challenge. Many famous talents in the Los Angeles area have an option to either play in the ping pong tournament, participate in the silent auction or just help out their causes in general.

With Jimmy Kimmel serving as the master of ceremonies, the 2017 edition turned into quite the event. A few Lakers even showed up for the event, including president of basketball operations Magic Johnson, head coach Luke Walton and recently signed guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Johnson and the Magic Johnson Foundation were being awarded with the Kershaw’s Challenge Impact Award, while coach Walton decided to get in on the action, via Matthew Moreno of Dodger Blue:

Walton went up against Kimmel and Dodgers All-Star Justin Turner, in a competitive matchup. The head coach of the Lakers has always shown a knack for sports outside of basketball, competing in beach volleyball countless times.

Clayton and Ellen Kershaw have done a magnificent job in helping the community with the Kershaw’s Challenge. 100 percent of their donations going towards their beneficiaries. Kershaw’s Challenge aims to help out children in the Dominican Republic, community schools in Africa, the Dream Center in Los Angeles and a community center and after-school program in their hometown of Dallas.
