Lakers News: Mike Brown Talks Logic Behind Minute Distribution

With the Lakers now 0-2 in the pre-season, many are curious as to the fine print behind head coach Mike Brown’s script before his team gets ready to kick off the regular season at the end of the month.

After last night’s 93-75 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, Brown said that he is looking at “individual [player] performances,” rather than individual games, and a lot of players, especially the starters, saw an increase in their minutes on the floor.

Both Metta World Peace and Pau Gasol played 30 minutes each against the Portland Trail Blazers, as opposed to 16:30 and 18:30 against the Golden State Warriors. Steve Nash tallied 25 minutes in comparison to 15 during game one. So, what exactly does Mike Brown have in mind as far as minute distribution?

“We’re trying to win games but not at the expense of me overplaying guys or not being able to take a look at other guys. It will probably stay like this for a couple games.”

Brown was notorious last season for playing some of his starters overloaded minutes, something fans and media members were very critical of. With an aging roster it’s important for Brown to be able to limit the minutes of some of his veteran players.

The Lakers will match-up against the Utah Jazz Saturday night. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm at Staples Center.
