Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young has enjoyed a nice resurgence this season, as he went from possibly being cut by the team to being the starting shooting guard.

Young had a difficult season last year, as he fell out of Byron Scott’s rotation and also dealt with some off-the-court issues involving teammate D’Angelo Russell and his then-fiance Iggy Azalea.

Young worked hard this past offseason though as he knows his roster spot could possibly be on the line, and he is now perhaps playing the best basketball of his career as he is averaging 13.4 points on 45 percent shooting and 36.3 percent shooting from three-point range.

Additionally, for the first time in a while, Young is playing hard defensively and accepting the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best player on most nights.

While his play on the court has been superb, Young remains the same character as he’s always been off the court. The 31-year-old who many call ‘Swaggy P’, or most recently ‘Uncle P’ and ‘Swag L,’ as Snoop Dogg calls him, is often the center of many jokes in the Lakers locker room.

While many call him Swaggy P, it was never really certain where the origin of the nickname or what it means came from. In a recent interview with UNINTERRUPTED, Young talked about how he got the nickname:

In the interview, Young says that he did not give himself the nickname, rather that God gave it to him in a dream of his. He also says that God would not tell him what the ‘P’ in the nickname means.

As long as Young continues to play the way he has been, no one will question the nickname that he claims he received from God.
