Former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson is a very busy man, as he recently took on the role of president of basketball operations for the franchise he played for, in addition to his many other business ventures.

One of those business ventures he is involved with is the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he became a part owner of the franchise when Guggenheim Baseball Management purchased the team in 2012.

Thursday night Johnson attended Clayton Kershaw’s annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose event at Dodger Stadium, where he was the recipient of the Kershaw’s Challenge Impact Award for his charitable work throughout the community with the Magic Johnson Foundation.

In his acceptance speech, Johnson made a bold prediction, as he said the Dodgers are going to win the World Series this year, via Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com, our sister site:

“Last but not least, the Dodgers are going to win the World Series this year. This is our year,” he said to rousing applause.

The prediction may not be that bold after all, as the Dodgers currently hold the best record in all of baseball at 71-31. They have struggled in the postseason in recent history though, as since winning the 1988 World Series they have made the playoffs only 10 times since and never returned to the World Series.

Johnson added that he would like to add a World Series ring to his collection though, so he can add it to his five NBA Championship rings he won with the Lakers.

Johnson’s main priority is winning another NBA Championship ring with the Lakers though, and he, along with general manager Rob Pelinka, have the Lakers back on the right path to doing that despite four consecutive losing seasons.
