Lakers Rumors: Jonny Flynn Interested in Signing with the Lakers

With the 2012 NBA Draft upon us and NBA free agency around the corner, the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most active teams in the league in terms of exploring options in free agency and via trade.

The most recent option to surface in free agency for the Lakers is a player the team’s front office might seriously consider. With Ramon Sessions hitting the free agent market as of July 1, the Lakers might be in need for a point guard once again and an option might be Jonny Flynn according to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com:

“Flynn has identified six teams — the Lakers, Portland, Phoenix, Toronto, Chicago, and Brooklyn — as potential destinations and should find mutual interest from the potential suitors, according to a source close to the unrestricted free agent point guard.”

Even though Flynn was thought to have a promising career in the NBA after being selected with the 6th overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2009, the former Syracuse standout has struggled to stay afloat in the league. Despite an impressive rookie season with the Timberwolves, Flynn has quickly turned into strictly a backup option at point guard.

Flynn has played for the Timberwolves, Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers in his three seasons in the league. As of July 1, Flynn will become a free agent for the first time in his career and the Lakers might be willing to give the 23-year-old a shot to earn some playing time in Mike Brown’s rotation at the point guard position.

Endless speculation continues to swirl in Los Angeles with the Lakers being mentioned in numerous trade rumors with big-name players Josh Smith, Zach Randolph and Mo Williams all potential trade targets moving forward.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not any considerable moves are made heading into the draft on Thursday night.
