When the Lakers aren’t serving up a show for their fans in L.A., they’re serving their community in a number of ways.  On Monday the 22nd, Steve Blake, Luke Walton, Devin Ebanks, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, A.C. Green, and a few of the Laker Girls were serving Thanksgiving meals to active military service men and women.

Several active military personnel from the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, all took part in the Lakers “A Season of Giving”, presented by East West Bank. The event is a part of a series of community outreach events during the holiday season.

“You guys are true heroes, and all of the sacrifices you do for our country and for us are really appreciated”, said Luke Walton to the military personnel in attendance at Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que in Torrance.

Dr. Magic!

Michigan State University announced last week that Magic Johnson will deliver one of three December commencement speeches on Saturday December 11.

The NBA legend and now business entrepreneur will also receive an honorary doctorate business degree, after addressing undergraduates from the colleges of Arts and Letters, Education, Music and Social Science; as well as undergraduates from the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, James Madison College and the Eli Broad College of Business.

Additionally, Johnson accepted the inaugural World AIDS Day Magic Award from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation last week. The 12 time NBA All-Star was honored at Staples Center for his great efforts in raising awareness and educating the world on AIDS and HIV prevention and treatment.

Way to go Magic!
