Austin Reaves has spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers and has thus built some excellent friendships with a number of his teammates. Of course, some of those players are no longer with the team and one of those is big man Anthony Davis, who was dealt away in the Luka Doncic trade.
Davis is also the host of a show on TBS called “Foul Play” in which he pranks athletes and celebrities with the help of others close to them. And in a recent episode, his latest victim was his former teammate in Reaves, whom he was able to prank with a fake charity giveaway, via Bleacher Report:
It is an excellent prank orchestrated by Davis as he is locked in on exactly when to make things happen and how to make Reaves uncomfortable in the situation. You can tell that Reaves is trying his best to remain calm as he is being pushed about the “mistake,” which is exactly the point of the prank.
It is also clear that Reaves and Davis share a genuine friendship as the first thing Reaves does when he sees his former teammate is to give him a big hug, not even caring about the prank anymore. Davis also said during the episode that he misses Reaves more than any other former teammate on the Lakers.
In the end, Reaves handled everything in stride and even noted that his hands are the reason he’s in the NBA now so there was no way he could’ve pressed that buzzer on accident. But he made the mistake of telling Davis that he would never be able to prank him, which only made him that much more of a target.
“It’s always something with AD, man.” Reaves said. “Even when he’s not on my team, he’s still bringing me problems.
Earlier in this season of “Foul Play,” LeBron James joined Davis to pull a prank on Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.
Austin Reaves’ contract in free agency could reach $40 million per year
Obviously the main focus for Reaves this summer is free agency as he is set for a major pay raise after being on arguably the best contract in the league. Reaves is an unrestricted free agent and there is some belief that his new contract could approach the $40 million range.
There is mutual interest in a return to the Lakers, so it will be interesting to see what number they ultimately agree on if he returns to the purple and gold.
