LeBron James’ time with the Los Angeles Lakers is over. There is no word just yet on what team he’ll play for next, but it won’t be with the purple and gold. His eight years with the Lakers was his longest consecutive stint with a singular team, joining in 2018 and winning one championship amid an era of unprecedented parity.
The 2019-20 Lakers were one of the most fun teams in recent L.A. memory, dominating in both the regular season and playoffs after coronavirus (COVID-19) paused the campaign. James went on to win Fibals MVP alongside an elite co-star in Anthony Davis and remarkable two-way depth. For those reasons, that Lakers team is among James’ favorites, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:
LeBron James is asked his favorite team he’s ever played for and brings up the Heatles, the 2016 Cavs and the 2020 Lakers.
Then he adds the 2008 Redeem Team.
No clues given.

It’s unsurprising that the 2019-20 Lakers would be among James’ favorite teams. It’s one of his four championship teams, but also a team that he clearly had fun playing with throughout the season. Him and Davis had an extremely close bond, and it was a team that became even closer during the postseason in the bubble.
He also named his other three championship teams — two with the Miami Heat and one with the Cleveland Cavaliers — all of which he openly enjoyed playing with.
James is arguably the greatest player in league history, and for him to have a memorable and positive Lakers stint just adds to the list of all-time greats to don the purple and gold.
LeBron James reveals favorite moments with Lakers
Bringing a championship back to the Lakers organization would be a top moment for just about any player, but it’s incredible that it stands out for a player of James’ caliber, who has plenty of all-time moments over the last eight years to pick from. But that’s how he answered his favorite moments with the team.
“There’s a lot. Obviously winning a championship in 2020 stands at the top,” James said after the Lakers’ season came to an end. “That was the reason why I came here. To restore that level of play and restore this franchise back to what it was known for of winning championships and playing at a high level. To be out there with that group, go out there and win a championship and compete at a championship level, was something I envisioned. That will stand at the top, for sure.”
