The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers are have always been linked as the two premier sports franchises in Southern California that have been here for decades. That link only grew closer as Lakers legend Magic Johnson became a minority owner of the Dodgers.
The Dodgers are now the standard of excellence arguably across all of American sports, having won back-to-back World Series championships. And they will be in pursuit of a three-peat after clinching the NL West title for the 13th time in 14 years and Johnson would take to social media to congratulate them for that accomplishment:
Cookie and I want to congratulate our Los Angeles Dodgers, Dave Roberts and his staff along with Dodger fans around the world for clinching the NL West title for the 13th time in 14 years! pic.twitter.com/PhA5OL9qOB

To win a division title 13 times in 14 seasons is an unreal level of consistency and performance. Quite frankly, the Dodgers have been dominant for over a decade and continue to be the team every other squad in MLB is chasing. And even in the one season they failed to win the NL West, they won 106 games, second-most in baseball, and were just one behind the San Francisco Giants, who they would go on to defeat in the NL Division Series.
Coincidentally, the Lakers’ best run of division dominance came when Johnson himself entered the NBA as he led the Lakers to 10 Pacific Division Titles in 11 years from his rookie year through the 1990 season. And during that time the Lakers won five NBA Championships with Johnson himself winning three regular season MVPs and three NBA Finals MVPs.
The current Lakers have won back-to-back Pacific Division titles as well and will come into the season as the favorites to win a third straight. But their ultimate goal is to return to championship contention with a new roster built around superstar Luka Doncic. It won’t be an easy road, but the Lakers are all about greatness at the highest level, as are the Dodgers who continue to show it each and every season.
