Mark Cuban: ‘Jerry Buss Is The Best In The History Of The NBA’

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is one of the most vocal and controversial owners in professional sports today. Although many don’t agree with Cuban’s tactics and attitude toward authority in the NBA, no one doubts his ability to be a great owner as he’s single-handedly turned around the Mavs franchise and helped lead them to an NBA title in 2011.

On Thursday, Cuban made an appearance on ESPN LA 710 radio with Ramona Shelburne and Max Kellerman. The controversial owner chimed in on the situation with Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers while also giving credit to late owner Dr. Jerry Buss:

“Jerry Buss is the best owner in the history of the NBA.”

Cuban has nothing but respect for Buss due to all the support he showed the Mavs owner over the years. Cuban also went on to say that Buss’ resume speaks for itself via ESPN LA 710:

“Championships speak for themselves.”

During Buss’ tenure with the Lakers, the Hall of Famer led the team to 10 titles and helped reshape the NBA in the process. Buss changed everything in terms of the viewing experience for NBA fans, being the first to add a dance team (Laker girls), striking a deal with a network, naming rights for the arena (Great Western Forum) and creating an entertaining atmosphere during games.

Needless to say, the NBA and Lakers lost a titan with Dr. Buss passing away in 2013. Jeanie and Jim Buss have incredibly big shoes to fill moving forward with many doubting their capability to do so.

Cuban recently said that he isn’t sure the “Lakers can be the Lakers” without Dr. Buss calling the shots or at least having an advisor role with the team. It remains to be seen if that is true or not, but the Buss family is confident they will be able to bounce back in the years to come.
