Metta World Peace Declares ‘Lakers Will Be No. 1 at Season’s End’

Charlotte Bobcats v Los Angeles LakersAnother day, another bold declaration by Lakers forward Metta World Peace. On Friday, World Peace joined Max and on Marcellus on ESPN Radio 710 to discuss the Lakers comeback win against the Hornets. As you recall, the Lakers were down 20 to the Hornets late in the third quarter and behind Kobe Bryant, rallied to win 108-102. When talking about the 20 point deficit, World Peace said,

“What happened was we were down 20 and when you’re involved in the game you pretty much need to move on to the next play.”

The same rang true last night, as the Lakers returned home to face the lowly Raptors, but found themselves fighting back from a 15-point hole much of the game. Kobe had a spectacular 41 points and 12 assists, but World Peace said the problem offensively is,

“I think offensively we just have to continue to play hard. Kobe is playing at a high level right now and I think guys have to stop watching him at times and just play at the highest level they can play at.”

Even after these two comeback wins, World Peace declared after the Hornets win that these games don’t mean much because at the end of the season, “If we lose that game, we’re still coming out number one at the end of the season, so that game means nothing to me”. This isn’t the first time World Peace has made a bold declaration.

If you remember when the Lakers acquired Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, World Peace said the Lakers would break the Bulls record and go 73-9. The confidence from World Peace should spread throughout the Lakers locker room, but they have to win games against sub .500 teams and not dig themselves too big of deficits to come out of.
