Mike Brown: Lakers Yet to Peak in 2012

After 34 games this season the Lakers are sitting with a record of 20-14, which is good enough for fifth place in the competitive Western Conference. However, it has been a very up-and-down year surrounded with trade rumors and player-only meetings.

Still, first-year Lakers coach Mike Brown stated that he believes the Lakers have yet to reach their full potential this season.

In a recent interview with USA Today’s J. Michael Falgoust, Brown discussed a myriad of topics, including the Lakers’ chances in the post-season.

We’re built for playing a playoff-style, seven-game series. I’m excited about that fact. We’re a lot closer defensively than what I thought we would be right now. Offensively, we’re making progress.

Brown is pleased with the team’s current defensive improvements, and is especially pleased with the development of Andrew Bynum on the offensive end.

There’s no doubt Bynum has improved this season, and being able to remain healthy has been the biggest plus for him. Still, the Lakers have been unable to put together an extended winning streak so far this season. But that doesn’t have Brown worried halfway through the season.

“I like our chances in a grind-it-out environment.”

Historically, that’s what the playoffs end up being. Still, Brown’s belief in his team is a positive sign moving into the second half of the season.
