NBA News: Houston Rockets Sign Carlos Delfino to One-Year Deal

Once Argentina was bounced from the 2012 Olympics, the one player that immediately had to handle some business was Carlos Delfino.

After hitting free agency on July 1, Delfino was thought to draw interest from many different teams around the league in need of a veteran shooting guard. Unfortunately, Delfino didn’t receive many offers from NBA teams and was very disappointed in the lack of interest from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Although a return to Milwaukee out of the question, Delfino ultimately found his new home with the Houston Rockets according to SI.com:

“A person with knowledge of the deal says the Houston Rockets have agreed to a one-year deal with Argentine forward Carlos Delfino.”

Last season, Delfino averaged 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the Bucks.

As if his numbers last year weren’t enough to spark interest around the league this summer as a viable backup off the bench or as a possible starter in the backcourt, Delfino was also impressive while playing for Argentina averaging 15.3 points per contest.

One of Delfino’s best assets along with being a legitimate scoring threat every time he touches the basketball is his outside shooting. Over the course of his career in the NBA, Delfino is a 36% shooter from beyond the arc.

With the Los Angeles Lakers actively pursuing a guard to come off the bench as a backup for Kobe Bryant, Delfino seemed to fit the bill. Despite Delfino being a possible option, the Lakers never pursued the Argentine guard and settled with signing Jodie Meeks to fill the void.

The Rockets will be the fourth team for Delfino after signing with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. Since playing for the Pistons, Delfino has played for the Toronto Raptors and Bucks before signing a one-year deal with Houston.
