NBA News: Lakers Owner Jerry Buss Undergoes Surgery

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss has been the head of the franchise since 1979 and has developed the team into one of the most recognizable franchises in the world. Buss is always looking out for the team and is constantly working to improve the roster.

Even though the Lakers are stronger than ever, Buss is dealing with health problems and the Los Angeles Times learned that Buss recently underwent surgery.

The Lakers did not say why Buss had surgery, but at this point all that is needed to known is that the procedure was completed successfully.

“He did have surgery and it went fine,” Lakers spokesman John Black said. “He’s not home yet, but he’s expected to make a full recovery….”

Buss’ son, Jim, the Lakers’ executive vice president of player personnel, on Friday told Times columnist T.J. Simers that his father got “out of surgery 14 hours ago” when the owner called Friday morning wanting details about the Lakers’ acquisition of Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic.

“I was with him [Thursday] night and he was basically incoherent and he was going to be like that for two or three days,” Buss told Simers.

Buss had other health problems in the past, with a report last month saying Buss was sent to the hospital due to dehydration. Buss is now 78 years-old and at this point he is more of an iconic figure for the Lakers than an active member of the front office. Jim Buss, son, has taken the helm from his father and is working closely with other members of the team in order to put together a championship roster.

Still, the Lakers are what they are today thanks to Jerry Buss and we here at Lakers Nation wish him the best moving forward.
