UPDATE (2:41 PM PT): With Rajon Rondo being ruled out indefinitely, Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle says that he doesn’t believe Rondo will wear a Mavericks jersey again according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas:

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Mavericks have ruled out Rajon Rondo indefinitely due to a supposed back injury suffered in Game 2 against the Rockets:

In the loss to the Rockets, Rondo had arguably one of the worst postseason performances of his career. The one-time NBA champion played only 10 minutes as the starting point guard for the Mavericks finishing with four points, two rebounds and one assist.

Along with putting up poor numbers across the board, Rondo made some questionable decisions while on the floor. The veteran point guard became increasingly physical with Rockets star James Harden and committed four fouls in the 10 minutes he played on Tuesday night in Houston. The former Boston Celtic also was called for an eight-second violation which immediately resulted in his benching by head coach Rick Carlisle.

At no point in the game did it appear Rondo had injured his back nor did seem as though he was laboring as a result of an injury. That being said, it seems clear Carlisle has had enough and would rather stick with J.J. Barea, Raymond Felton and Devin Harris moving forward.

With Rondo’s future with the team up in the air and a seemingly ongoing feud with Coach Carlisle, the 29-year-old may have played his last game for Dallas. Rondo has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers all season long and the rumors will likely kick into high gear following this news out of Dallas.
