During Young’s introductory press conference on Friday, the Los Angeles native talked about Dwight Howard leaving the Lakers in free agency. Young was surprised anyone would want to leave Los Angeles willingly via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin via Twitter:

Before Dwight officially became a free agent on July 1, the consensus was that the Lakers would be able to re-sign the league’s best center. A player of Dwight’s caliber leaving Los Angeles willingly was unprecedented and unheard of, but it didn’t matter as it appeared that he’d basically made his mind up long before being able to walk in free agency.

Young making these comments regarding the storied NBA franchise and the city of Los Angeles resinates with the fans and former players. Leaving Los Angeles and the Lakers for any other opportunity leaves many wondering what went wrong, but now the team can bring in the players like Young that truly want to play in Los Angeles.

With Chris Kaman, Jordan Farmar and Young in the fold, the Lakers’ front office will continue to pursue other free agents with Lamar Odom still on the team’s radar moving forward. Odom has yet to indicate a desire to return to the Lakers over potentially re-signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.
