Phil Jackson Predicted NBA-Hornets Mess

When Phil Jackson was still the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA finalized its decision to take control of the New Orleans Hornets. Although at that point no one was really concerned about the action, Jackson understood just how risky that choice could become.

When asked in 2010 about the possible departure of Chris Paul from the Hornets, Jackson had this to say:

“Who’s going to pull the button on it? When Chris says he has to be traded, how’s that going to go? Someone’s going to have to make a very nonjudgmental decision on that part that’s not going to irritate anyone else in the league.”

The Lakers could have already acquired superstar Chris Paul, but thanks to David Stern and his staff the deal was vetoed. Although there is an appeal in place, Stern has not yet reversed his decision to reject the trade.
