Sacre Expected To Start; Metta To Play In Post

NBA: Preseason-Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles LakersAs if things couldn’t get any worse for Lakers fans in 15-18 Laker Land. It was announced today that all three of the Lakers big men are out indefinitely. So who will start at center? Drum roll please…It’s Robert Sacre time. Sacre is about to do a lot less dancing and a lot more posting in tomorrow night’s game.

Just two days ago, rookie Robert Sacre was assigned to the D-League. 72 hours later, we could be (and most likely, will be) seeing him start at the center position for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Houston Rockets. D’Antoni seemed just as surprised as the rest of the media when learning that his three big men would not be available for tomorrow night’s game, and is just hoping his rookie can hurry back from the D-League.

“I’m guessing Sacre, if he can get in from the D-League real quick…It will be a great opportunity for him.”

I don’t think anyone could have predicted that in January of 2013, the Lakers would be relying on the Lakers renowned bench dancer to hurry home from the D-League. At the training facility Monday morning, Dwight Howard said that the team was watching Sacre play for the Defenders in the locker room. His words of advice:

“Just have fun and play basketball.”

Both Howard and Bryant smiled when admitting to watching Sacre get dunked on in his D-League game today, yet still sounded to have plenty of confidence in him. Bryant was most worried about Sacre playing so many minutes in today’s D-League game, but starting Sacre at center wasn’t the only surprising roster disclosure at the training facility this morning. Metta World Peace will once again be expected to step up in all facets tomorrow night, including small forward, power forward and the most jaw-dropping of all, center.

“Metta’s probably going to play some 3, some 4, some 5. He’s going to have to guard whoever’s in front of him.”

World Peace is all too familiar with adjusting and fitting in wherever needed. From Mike Brown to Mike D’Antoni, Peace has seen minutes at the shooting guard, small forward, power forward, sixth man, and bench warmer. Listed at 6’7, 260 pounds Metta will now add center to his ever-morphing resume. However, if anyone has it in him, after watching his hustle last night against the Denver Nuggets, it’s Metta World Peace.
