Shaquille O’Neal Says He Won’t Play in Mexico

Last week a report surfaced that indicated Shaquille O’Neal was considering making a return to the hardwood. Not the NBA hardwood, mind you, but a basketball league in Mexico.

O’Neal, who retired from the NBA following the 2011 season, is now saying he won’t be playing professional basketball in Mexico this year. According to an interview with the  New Orleans Times-Picayune, O’Neal put an end to the rumors.

“No truth to that,” he responded. “It’s kind of unfortunate that so-called experts have to get their sources from the Internet. It’s backwards. Especially like when people from ESPN know me and they can call me and ask me, but somebody else said it so they want to be the first to report it even though it’s not true. However, we could talk, but nobody has contacted me.”

I guess even as a member of the media Shaq still doesn’t like them very much. Never change, Big Diesel. Never change.

O’Neal will still be in the spotlight this season as he will have his number-34 jersey retired by the Los Angeles Lakers.
